Patients who are concerned about having braces often ask us, "Do braces hurt?" This is one of the most common inquiries we get from patients.
The truthful response that we usually provide is that the application itself will not cause any difficulty; but, once we have joined the brackets with the orthodontic wire, you could experience some slight pain or discomfort.
Within the first few days after the placement of their braces or the adjustment of their brackets or wires, a significant number of patients report experiencing some level of pain or stiffness. Your mouth will undergo significant transformations as a result of getting braces, and it may take a number of weeks for your cheeks and lips to get used to the new movement patterns.
It will come as a relief to you to learn that the equipment and wires that we employ are contemporary and intentionally intended to provide gentle, progressive, and constant pressure to your teeth in order to avoid causing you any unnecessary discomfort.
